Using the Printer While Away from Home

Preparation Before Leaving Home

To use the printer while away from home, you must connect your computer and the printer with Wireless Direct.

This section describes how to save a Wireless Direct connection setting to the computer beforehand.

Note

  • The following descriptions are based on Windows 10.
  1. Check that the network name (SSID) of the wireless router to which the printer is connected is for the 2.4 GHz band.

If for the 2.4 GHz band, proceed to Step 2.

If for the 5 GHz band, follow the steps below for reconnection.

    1. From the printer's operation panel, select (Setup) > LAN settings > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi setup.

    2. Select Manual connect, and then select the network name (SSID) for the 2.4 GHz band.

    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

  2. Check that the printer's Wireless Direct is enabled.

    1. From the printer's operation panel, select (Setup) > LAN settings > Wireless Direct > Show setting info.

    2. Check that Connection is set to Enable.

If not set to Enable, enable Wireless Direct in Advanced mode.

  3. Create a Wireless Direct icon on the computer (Windows only).

In Windows, follow the steps below to create a Wireless Direct icon.

    Note

    • In macOS, these steps are not necessary.
    1. Set up the computer's Wi-Fi to connect to the printer's network name (SSID) for Wireless Direct connection.

    2. Select Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners, and then add the printer.

Make sure to save the security setting and select the Connect automatically checkbox.

      Note

      • If multiple icons with the same name are created, we recommend that you rename them to make it easier to distinguish between them.
